Dr. Maroon Lectures on The Treatment of Behavioral Disorders and also Uses of CBD at International Conference

Dr. Joseph Maroon was an invited lecturer at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Anti-aging Medicine in Los Vegas, December 9 – 12, 2021. The A4M is the largest, all inclusive preventive medicine meeting. Physicians from over 20 countries and all medical specialties are invited and participate.

His first talk was entitled, Cannabidiol (CBD) Applications for Neurological Conditions, Weight Loss and Diabetes. He reviewed the history of the endocannabinoid system and the various therapeutic uses of marijuana and cannabidiol for these diverse topics.

His main presentation, presented to over 1000 attendees, was entitled, The Connectome–Treatment of Behavioral Disorders with Psychosurgery, Neuromodulation and Psychedelics. Therein he reviewed the wiring diagram of the brain taking the discussion from the neurons and synaptic connections to networks and discussed how psychiatric diseases result from a disruption from interconnected systems and networks. Newer therapeutic approaches include using transcranial magnetic stimulation, direct electrical current stimulation and light or photobiomodulation. He further discussed the present status of psychedelics in the treatment of PTSD, post concussion syndrome and major depression.
