Fit Maroon in Lab coatDr. Joseph Maroon had dedicated his career to neurosurgery, sports medicine, healthy nutrition  and personal fitness.  His goal is to help others enjoy better health by treating, avoiding and preventing degenerative diseases and injuries.

Dr. Maroon’s expertise is sought out by those in many fields, including: Minimally invasive Spine and Brain surgery; Sports and Concussion Medicine; Health and Wellness; and Nutritional Methods to Prolong Life.

Academic:

  • Clinical Professor and Vice Chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of  Pittsburgh Medical Center
  • Founder of Tri-State Neurosurgical Associates – UPMC
  • Heindl Scholar in Neuroscience
  • Authored more than 265 Scientific Articles and  a reviewer for five medical journals
  • He has authored or co-authored 40 book chapters and edited or written five books
  • He is on three neurological journal editorial boards

  • Member of National Football League’s Head and Neck Committee
  • Dr. Maroon is frequently quoted expert source by national media on Concussion-related issues, recently including the New York Times, USA Today, Associated Press, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and ABC News Nightline
  • Researcher on Omega-3 effects on Cholesterol Levels in Professional Football Players

Personal Sports Record:

  • Participation in numerous marathons and more than 70 Olympic-distance triathlon events, including 8 international Ironman triathlons (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run)
  • Inducted into the Lou Holtz Upper Ohio Valley Hall of Fame, along with Joe Montana and NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabar
  • March 2010  inducted into the National Fitness Hall of Fame
  • Dr. Maroon’s athletic abilities earned him a football scholarship to Indiana University, Bloomington, and he was selected as a scholastic All-American
