Why do 95% of all Weight loss Diets Fail?

fruit bowlMay 7, 2015  In a recent study by Cornell University researchers looked at over 100 weight loss diets and found those that relied on “will power” to succeed only work about 5% of the time.  Trying to identify a better method they reported that the CAN method may work better, CAN stands for healthier foods that are Convenient, Attractive and Normal.  In their study they concluded:

….. effective interventions on food choice either make healthy choices more convenient (physically or cognitively), more attractive (comparatively or absolutely), or more normal (perceived or actual).

Healthy Food tips based on the CAN method could include –  keeping the fruit bowl near your car keys or for schools placing the chocolate milk further from the check out line to make it harder to get to. This concept also involves manufacturers who need to make healthy food packaging more attractive and taste better.

The researchers summarize by saying, “changing everyday, long-term behavior is the key to adding years and quality to our lives. This involves reducing risky behavior and making changes in exercise and nutrition.”
