Dr. Joseph Maroon the Benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen for Athletes at Hockey Conference

Jun 20, 2025 Dr. Joseph Maroon was the keynote speaker at the recent meeting of the Professional Hockey
Athletic Trainers Society and Professional Hockey Equipment Managers (PHATS/SPHEM)
meeting in Orlando on June 19-21, 2025. It was attended by over 300 professionals.
The title of his presentation was: Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Sports Medicine – Healing the
Brain, Accelerating Recovery and Increasing Performance.

Dr. Maroon presented his own personal experience with over 60 treatments of hyperbaric
oxygen therapy and how it positively affected his own performance in competitive triathlon
competition. His experience was documented in the peer reviewed journal, Frontiers in
Neurology, entitled: “The effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on cognition, performance, proteomics, and telomere length – The difference between zero and one”.

The society promotes the most advanced knowledge and techniques in the science of athletic
training, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports injuries. It’s the primary professional
association for hockey athletic trainers in the United States and Canada. It is also the society
for the professional hockey equipment managers.

Dr. Maroon with Jerry Rosburg, former head coach of the Denver Broncos and assistant head coach, Baltimore Ravens with their respective Super Bowl rings. Mr. Rosburg also participated in the PFAT annual meeting in Orlando.
