Chuck Noll Foundation Annual Report Features Dr. Maroon and “Bella’s Story”

April 24, 2024

Stoking the Flame: Bella’s Story, was one of several highlights that were featured in the 2023 Chuck Noll Foundation Annual Report.  In June 2023, the generosity of one of Dr. Joseph Maroon’s patient, Bella, was reported on the Chuck Noll Foundation web. (See her story Here)

In addition to Bella’s Story the Foundation also reported for 2023 the number of grants it has issued along with other fund-raising statistics.

  • Over $3 million awarded to twenty four research projects;
  • Leveraged over $15 million in additional funding for our grantees;
  • Several research grants were published in major medical and science journals;
  • With our support, the National Sports Brain Bank was formally launched;

The 2023 Report also noted the contributions of Coach Noll, Dr. Maroon and Mark Lovell. PhD:

Raised a record number of contributions with the help of some amazing people. How have we been able to do this? It all started with a spark 33 years ago in 1991, when Hall of Fame Steelers coach Chuck Noll asked a simple question, “What tangible data is used to determine post-concussion return-to-play protocol?” This seemingly simple question led team neurosurgeon, Dr. Joseph Maroon, and sports psychologist, Dr. Mark Lovell, to develop the ImPACT test, now widely used by millions of athletes to establish their baseline cognitive function and determine subsequent readiness for return to play after concussion.

I strong encourage you to see the annual report and contribute to this worthy cause.
