The Importance of Gut Health

March 10 2021 – It is a surprise to many the role a gut healthy plays in our overall health. The gut microbiome or bacteria that reside in our intestinal track plays an important role in the development of chronic diseases ranging from metabolic disease to gastrointestinal disorders and colorectal cancer. Dietary patterns and environmental factors have a profound effect on shaping gut microbiota. Intestinal bacteria break down foods such as dietary fiber, through the process of fermentation, to produce short-chain fatty acids, vitamins and modulate our immune function.

This discussion will review the benefits of the gut, how to keep it healthy and the conditions that can be improved with better choices.
