Dr, Joseph Maroon Keynote Speaker at Major Neurosurgical Conference on Brain Computer Interface

July 21, 2025 – Dr. Joseph Maroon was the JUSTIN SINGER LECTURE keynote speaker and honored guest at the joint meeting of the Subcortical Surgery Group (SSG) and the World Brain Computer Interface Forum at the St. Julien Hotel in Boulder, Colorado, July 18-19, 2025. World BCI is a global hub for brain computer interface innovation. Over 700 leading authorities from academia and industry across the globe attended both in person as well as virtually to discuss cutting edge research from world class experts and pioneering companies in BCI and AI.

Dr. Maroon spoke on “Success, Failure, Creativity and Fun in the Neurosciences”.  Dr. Julian Bailes, founder of the SSG and Dr. Neilank Jha, executive chairman of the World BCI Forum, also welcomed the second keynote speaker, Dr. Andres Lozano, Professor and Chairman of Neurosurgery at the University of Toronto. Dr. Lozano and his pioneering work in functional neurosurgery is the most cited neurosurgeon, author, and investigator in the world.

Presentations, panels and exhibits from the top leaders advancing research, product development and clinical translation for emerging applications of BCI technology were also featured. Such collaboration between academia and industry will lead to meaningful impact on
patients around the world. Brain computer interfaces will be a milestone contribution to medicine by way of restoring functionality, augmenting human capabilities, and revolutionizing current treatments.

Live presentations from leaders at the forefront of the industry including presentations by the senior vice president of Morgan Stanley and a former director RandD for Google discussed opportunities for investment and development in the BCI space. Additional speakers included Yassaman Salas, global head of healthcare investment, banking and medical devices for Goldman Sachs, David Weild, the fourth former vice chairman of NASDAQ, Nicolas Vachicouras, CEO and co-founder of Neurosoft Bioelectronics and Vikash Gilja, chief science officer for Paradromics.
