Dr Maroon Combines Exercise and Recreation while Biking to Washington DC

Crossing Continental Divide Maroon May 24 2016May 25, 2016 Dr. Joseph Maroon is not only a renowned and well respected neurosurgeon, he is an avid triathlete and exercise enthusiast.  Over the last several years he has used his summers to conquered Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Ironman at the World Championship in Hawaii and the Laurel Highlands trail during the Crucible charity fundraiser. This year he is currently participating in the Rails to Trails bike trip to Washington, DC.  The initial 125 miles is on the Great Allegheny Passage from Pittsburgh to Cumberland, MD, located on abandoned railroad beds. The final 184 miles goes from Cumberland, MD to downtown Washington, DC.  Dr Maroon is now at Day 4 on his trip with his daughter Isabella.  Despite a driving rain all day yesterday they completed the lastest 76 mile leg of their journey.  Allegheny Passage Maroon May 25 2016

As you can see from the photo the weather has dried out some and the sights have been incredible.  We wish Dr Maroon, Isabella and their entire group safe travels as they hope to complete the trip on Friday night.
