Dr Joseph Maroon Attends Chuck Noll Foundation Fund Raiser Announces Scientific Meeting

The Chuck Noll Foundation, founded by Mr. Art Rooney, held a fundraiser prior to the Steelers/Bears football game on November 23 in Chicago. The meeting was hosted by former Chicago Bear linebacker, Brian Urlacher, Dr. Bailes, a member of the scientific advisory board, Mr. Scott Swank a contributor to the Chuck Noll Foundation and Mr. Chris O’Donnell.

Executive Director, Mr. John Denny outlined the grants provided to the University of Pittsburgh, Penn State University, WVU Carnegie Mellon and others, and the remarkable research performed and leveraged for additional funding through the Foundation. Dr. Maroon highlighted the study funded by the Chuck Noll foundation being done by Dr. Pravat Mandal, former director of the Indian national brain research center in India, and now in the department of NEUROSURGERY and radiology at the University of Pittsburgh.

He and Dr. Maroon are studying the use of magnetic resonance spectroscopy to non-invasively diagnose degenerative brain disease in former NFL players, Navy, Seals, and army Rangers. The study is the first of its kind and may also have potential therapeutic application.
