“It was slow in coming, but the most dramatic example was Merril Hoge, who played for the Steelers, was traded to the Chicago Bears, and suffered a severe concussion while playing for them,” Dr. Maroon said. “When he came back to us we had his (ImPACT) baseline, and when we retested him we saw how abnormal his reaction times were. His memory was impaired as well. We advised him to quit football and he did. Now he’s a commentator with ESPN.”
