Dick’s Sporting Goods to help fund concussion tests
August 15, 2011 at 11:14 amImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is a computerized 20-minute test which, when compared to a baseline test, can determine whether and to what degree an athlete has been impaired by a concussion.
It was created in the 1990s by UPMC neurosurgeon Joseph Maroon for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and expanded and computerized by Mark Lovell and Micky Collins, neuropsychologists who direct UPMC’s sports medicine concussion program.

Student-athletes at Riverside Junior-Senior High School will have access to potentially life-saving equipment this school year, thanks to a new program that provides the school with post-concussion screening.
PACE, Protecting Athletes through Concussion Education, is an initiative launched by Dick’s Sporting Goods to make Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing, or ImPACT, available to 3,335 school districts nationwide.
