Dr Maroon Announces New Stem Cell Study for Brain Injury

Dr. Maroon was part of a press release interview announcing the start of new research on patients who have suffered brain injury.  The study is the first of its kind using stem cell treatment and in part is supported by the Toledo health system and Stemedica Cell Technologies Inc. to create the Gordie Howe Initiative at ProMedica Toledo Hospital where the study will be run.

An article appeared in the Toledo Blade reporting on the event and Dr Maroon was quoted as follows:
The goal is for the stem cells to trigger regeneration of cells or the preservation of cells already there, Dr. Maroon said. These cells that “reduce inflammation and inflammation is a major component of the cascade of problems that occur with traumatic brain injury,” he added.
