May 3, 2016 – Pittsburgh Magazine has again published its annual listing of Best Doctors in its May 2016 issue.  Dr Joseph Maroon, UPMC neurosurgeon, is again listed as one of Pittsburgh’s “Top Docs”.  The list is a selection of the region’s top physicians compiled by Best Doctors of America, Inc that determines the best of the best in our region.

This honor is not surprising based on Dr Maroon’s positive responses from patient satisfaction surveys now available to the public on UPMC’s website.  In a recent initiative by the US government and insurance carriers, patient satisfaction now plays a bigger role in both reimbursement and patient referral.  The satisfaction or dissatisfaction voiced by a patient who recently had care by a UPMC physician is now available for all to see on the internet.  This means both prospective patients and insurance carriers can get an idea as to the experiences other patients have had with a physician.  Data so far on the use of satisfaction surveys indicates it can lead to improve quality patient care, better health outcomes and ultimately a better experience when dealing with a medical condition.
